Building systems to make building podcasts easier

The BBC are looking to create personalised content for younger audiences. But, it is difficult.

The BBC are looking to create personalised content for younger audiences. But, it is difficult.

Everyone at the BBC understands how to produce linear content. The organsations has built large, complex systems to ensure that programmes get made on time and to a high quality standard.

But all of this costs and it’s difficult to change and adapt.

Robin Pembrooke builds content production systems at the BBC. He uses Brexitcast as his example of a podcast which has built its own processes - planned on Whatsapp, made in taxis, and it's always on the run.

Brexitcast use a variety of tools which are available to the general public. It’s therefore hard to move this back into the BBC processes and systems.

But the BBC is trying to evolve and innovate the traditional processes and support teams such as the one making Brexitcast.

Flexible production spaces and allowing production on-the-go are important going forward. The world has changed and the BBC needs to change with it.
